Ken and I celebrated our anniversary at Baxter’s on Main<\/a>. \u00a0Baxter’s has a special place in our hearts–we stopped there the evening we first saw little Piney. \u00a0We had cocktails and dinner at the bar watching people come and go, eavesdropping, and imaging what it would feel like to be locals.<\/p>\n

This was our first time to dine in the restaurant. \u00a0We were happy to be seated in the back away from a noisy family. \u00a0 The interior is traditional and comfortable with local art for sale hanging on the walls. \u00a0The service was warm and friendly as it always is in Bastrop. \u00a0The menu offered a range of appetizers and salads, and entrees of steak, chicken, fish and lamb. \u00a0Entrees come with two sides. \u00a0The wine list offered domestic and foreign wines–a nice selection.<\/p>\n

The salads were fresh and good. \u00a0I had a half rack of lamb perfectly prepared medium rare. \u00a0Ken had the prime rib special, and had the last serving. \u00a0The sides we had were very good, especially the green beans. \u00a0We were very satisfied with our meal.<\/p>\n

When it came to dessert however, we headed over to Maxine’s<\/a>. \u00a0Because of the generous portions, we’re always too full for dessert when we have dinner at Maxine’s so this was our big chance. \u00a0With huge pieces of Italian Creme cake and Chocolate cake and 2 cups of decaf we were happily making up for lost time, but an even bigger treat was the music.<\/p>\n

I love<\/strong> that in Bastrop you can walk in off the street, get a table without waiting, and listen for the cost of a tip to some amazing music. \u00a0On the stage were Sean Orr<\/a> and the Pettit Brothers,<\/a> top notch musicians playing a variety of celtic and traditional American folk music. \u00a0We stayed till the end of the show and went home to Little Piney full and happy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
