Frosty Morning at Little Piney<\/h2>\n

Sunday morning I awoke to the sound of hundreds of Robins and the sight of a frosty earth. \u00a0 Flashing red in the sun, the Robins flew\u00a0from\u00a0the woods in groups of 20-25 and perched in\u00a0bare elms among\u00a0Cedar Waxwings, Chipping Sparrows, and Cardinals.<\/p>\n

Mist on Dragonfly Pond<\/h2>\n

I threw on a warm coat, stuffed extra lenses in my pockets, and headed out\u00a0with my camera to photograph a sparkling\u00a0Little Piney in the clear morning light. \u00a0I’m thankful that I visited Dragonfly Pond<\/a>\u00a0first. \u00a0If I had chosen a different path,\u00a0I would have \u00a0missed the sun rays divided by the pines and the rising mist, all reflected in the dark mirror\u00a0of still water.<\/p>\n

Frost and Frost Weed<\/h2>\n

A young deer and I surprised each other on the way back toward the lake.<\/p>\n

I looked for the Frost Weed<\/a>,\u00a0Verbena virginica<\/em>, and found it under the pine trees. \u00a0When frozen, Frost Weed produces tiny ice sculptures as the moisture seeps out of its stems.<\/p>\n

The frost disappeared quickly in the morning sun.<\/p>\n
