Austin Studio Tour 2020: Art in the Days of Covid-19

Austin Studio Tour Starts This Weekend–online

Austin Studio Tour Online

The Austin Studio Tour 2020 starts this Saturday, November 14. As always, it runs for two weekends and features local artists in their studios, homes, and galleries.

This year the tour combines East and West, and features over 400 Austin artists. I am pleased to be among them, yet I’m not sure what to expect this year.. For health and safety reasons, the tour is primarily online at https://www.bigmedium.org/austinstudiotour, and Big Medium, the tour’s organizer, has discouraged any contact between artists and patrons, and will not post studio locations, only websites. I support this decision, by the way, as Covid-19 cases surge across the country requiring us all to adapt to safety measures and inconveniences.

I will be following the safety guidelines set by Big Medium which do not allow artists to open their studios to visitors. Instead, I will have online studio tours and talks on Facebook and YouTube. You can see most of my work online on my website https://www.tammybrownart.com. The problem is that most people prefer to see a painting in person before they purchase it. I know I do. At first, it seemed that this was forbidden by the rules, but the hard line seems to have softened a bit. With a situation so different from any other, I think it’s okay for everyone to be a little bit flexible. Anyway, I think controlling 400 artists is like the proverbial “herding of cats.”

I want people to be able to see my paintings in person–the best part of
the tour is showing my work to art lovers who want to see it. I have an outdoor courtyard area where I can safely set up your favorite paintings by appointment. I invite you to look at my website, choose the work you would like to see, then text or call me at 512-964-3337. We can schedule an outside visit wearing masks and maintaining social distance. Short notice is fine, and there is no pressure to purchase! If you know which paintings you would like to see let me know, and I will have them ready for you.

On Saturday, November 14 at 2, I will have a live studio tour on Facebook. I hope you will drop in. Other videos and events will be posted or linked to on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TammyBrownArt. and on Instagram @tammybrownart.

Please join me for this new experience, and help make this tour a creative success in 2020.
